What Is MYofascial Release?
Myofascial release is a type of physical therapy often used to treat myofascial pain syndrome. Myofascial pain syndrome is a chronic pain disorder caused by sensitivity and tightness in your myofascial tissues. These tissues surround and support the muscles throughout your body. The pain usually originates from specific points within your myofascial tissues called “trigger points”.
Myofascial release focuses on reducing pain by easing the tension and tightness in the trigger points. It’s not always easy to understand what trigger point is responsible for the pain. Localizing pain to a specific trigger poin is very difficult. For that reason, myofascial release is often used over a broad area of muscle and tissue rather than at single points
How Does myofascial release work ?
Most myofascial release treatments take place during a massage therapy session.
Your therapist will gently massage the myofascia and feel for tight or tight areas. Normal myofascia should feel flexible and elastic. The therapist will begin to massage and stretch areas that feel stiff with light hand pressure. The therapist then helps the supporting tissue and sheath release pressure and tension. The process is repeated several times at the same trigger point and at other trigger points until the therapist feels that the tension has been fully released.
These areas where the massage therapist is working may not be close to where the pain originates or where you feel the pain most prominently. Myofascial release works the wider network of muscles that may be causing your pain. It attempts to reduce tension throughout the body by releasing trigger points in a wide section of the muscular system.
Why Should you do myofascial release ?
- stress reduction of traumatic origins
- helps to relax
- provides more muscle stretch so there is more freedom between muscle and fascia
- increases joint mobility
- favors the execution of movements
- improve blood circulation and breathing
- helps with muscle recovery
- improve chronic low back pain
- reduce late-onset muscle soreness
- reduce stress and anxiety

Ola! I’m visiting Ericeira from Santa Cruz California on July 21-23 and would love to schedule a private surf longboard or SUP surf session, yoga and massage. I’m an experienced longboard and SUP surfer. Ideally the afternoon of the 21 or all day the 22nd. Look forward to hearing from you!

Hey, i have been in Ericeira at beginning of August 2022. i’m an sports gym, who often does gym sessions, surfing, hiking, swimming, bouldering, climbing and a lot of other sports. I know the value of regeneration. i recharge my power for muscles with yoga, meditation. But sometimes you need an active input of massage. Rosana dit that perfect. At the first moments its pain, but the next days it will give you the right strength und stretch you need for your new performance.
I visited Rosana during my holiday to release some of the strain in my muscles from backpacking, surfing and sport and was super comfortable with the way Rosana explained and massaged. Well organised, knowledgeable and skilled. Felt good and helped a lot.
I visited Roseanne for a massage while in Ericeira over the summer. It was so good and left me feeling fit and strong! We’re back in Ericeira again now and of course i booked another massage and a yoga lesson. The yoga lesson was also fantastic! I can totally recommend both. Hope to see you again Roseanne – thanks! 🙏
